You know it’s going to be a good day when your only worry is mojito or pina colada? 7 am and I was up. Just like that. No snooze needed. I suddenly became a morning person. How did that happen?
I started making my way to the beach, only a short 2 minute walk. We started walking by the edge of the water, where the waves sometimes hit your feet. My mind was present and I was at peace. The beach was calm, the sounds of the waves were relaxing, and the sun was slowly waking up. And I was grateful.
Just like on Thanksgiving day, we reflected on the things we were grateful for. We found that after spending a few days in Havana, our minds opened to just how lucky we were. It was important to appreciate the opportunities we were given, and not take for granted the things accessible to us, especially the basic necessities like food and water that may be a struggle for others.
WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO PRACTICE GRATITUDE
1. You become more authentic – In a world of social media, it becomes difficult to recognize authenticity. The act of being grateful keeps you in check with reality.
2. It will change the narrative of your life from negativity to positivity – By practicing gratitude on a daily basis, it gives you perspective, allows you to appreciate what you have rather than dwelling on what you don’t.
3. It allows you to live in the moment and be present – As it becomes a habit, it then becomes a lifestyle.
On another note, I bought this dress a few years ago. I keep coming back to this piece because it’s great for the summer, it’s lightweight, and the design and patterns looks like it should be on an art canvas. Also versatile, I’ve worn it as a casual day dress and as a cocktail party dress in the evening.
